The Washington Post reports on vintage clothes for weddings
The generation that grew up shopping for vintage clothes is getting married and looking for retro wedding dresses. So the good news is if you have your mom’s Priscilla of Boston silk gown boxed up somewhere.

“There is a market for vintage wedding dresses,” says Brides magazine fashion director. “Mixing old with new is big, it could be a dress or veil, or just vintage shoes or cocktail hat.”

1950s designs with tight waist and full skirt, and 1930s Hollywood- inspired charmeuse gowns. The hit TV series Mad Men has created a yen for 1960s formal gowns.

At Antiquedress.com, owner Deborah Burke specializes in high-end gowns, including ones on consignment. She splits the selling price of the gown with the consigner. Burke’s caution to would-be sellers: Condition is everything.

With all the new technology in the world of weddings, from Twitter to Facebook engagement announcements, the biggest trend is a to the past: ’50s-inspired glamour. In my earlier posts I had mentioned this Retro weddings. So couples getting married are looking to mix this vintage wedding trend with their own personality.

Also look for quirky surprises, inspired by couple’s unique personality, or of-the-moment pop-culture crazes.

1 The 1980s are back in a huge way, weddings are not immune. 1980s prom music will be huge at fashion-forward receptions and parties

2 Its all Avatar, the 3-D craze will also be hitting the wedding scene with 3-D save-the-dates, menus and more. Save the date crossword puzzle-styles video announcements, and special performances

3 Inspired by the hit show, Glee, couples are taking their first dance to a whole new level by opting for a “mash-up” (or medley) of songs instead of a single one

4 High-top trainers peeking out from under his tuxedo. A glimpse of a pink petticoat under the hemline of her dress! bright-green socks for the groom and bright-green shoes for the bride! Couples are really showing color and their individuality, underneath it all.

5 Forget the sparklers, confetti canons and hot air balloon sendoffs will be all the rage.

Stockholm weddings last year had some absolutely amazing weddings for me having worked in some of the most fantastic wedding venues Grand Hotel Stockholm, Nordic Blue, even in my favourite furniture store R.O.O.M are a few that come immediately sping to mind. It would made a perfect ad for a juvelerare in Stockholm for also perfect background for my first wedding of the year at Djursholms Slott in Djursholm, this wedding was a secret wedding .. well thats until M and A tell you.

in the summer the couple were married at hedvig eleonora kyrka , I took this wedding portrait in the Armemuseum close to the church. I love the photo myself it really has a modern edge to the portrait.

I have just read an interesting article on couples getting married in Sweden. Interesting because Im already seeing a rise in weddings in sweden and now taking bookings for 2010 2011 weddings in Stockholm. Now I see swedish brides, couples are following US and UK wedding trends in booking wedding venues and photographers at the same time.

Färre gifter sig i Sverige Det är ett trendbrott, för de senaste tio åren har giftemålen stadigt ökat.

Det var 42 634 giftermål till och med oktober förra året. Det är en sänkning med över 2 500 giftermål jämfört med samma period året före. . ett bröllop kostade i snitt nära 100 000 kronor 2006. Att det blir färre som gifter är inte unikt för Sverige.

Samma trend på andra håll i världen, bland annat Japan. Ett land som blivit hårt drabbat av lågkonjunkturen. Men det är inte bara den dystra ekonomin som gör att färre gifter sig.
